North Fulton schools recognized for academic achievement

NORTH FULTON — More than a third of all Fulton County schools were recognized by the state for improving and promoting academic excellence under the Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS) program.

“We are thrilled any time that our schools are recognized for high performance and increasing students’ achievement levels,” said Fulton Superintendent Cindy Loe. “This is yet another indication that our schools are hitting the mark when it comes to educating students.”

In all, 34 Fulton schools, which included 30 schools in North Fulton, were selected by the Georgia Department of Education and the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement for making great strides in educating students. These schools were recognized in two categories – Greatest Gains and Highest Performance.

Schools in the Greatest Gains category showed the greatest improvement in scores on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) or the Georgia HS Graduation Tests (GHSGT).

Those in the Highest Performance category demonstrated the highest achievement on the CRCT or GHSGT.

Awards are granted in four levels — Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze — depending on the percentage of students who met or exceeded state standards on the annual tests, and the school having made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). This is the sixth year the state has recognized high-performing schools.

The recognized schools will receive an acknowledgement letter from the state and a banner announcing the award to display in the school.
